To give you some background, screens are a decorative and functional object that arrived in Spain from Japan and whose word has a meaning: “the screen of protection against the wind”, as they were used inside homes in order to stop draughts and wind from outside. That is why most of the traditional screens that we can find in the market, as well as ours in particular, have drawings and designs that remind us of different scenes from Asian culture. Flowers, landscapes and female figures are usually the most common elements. The most authentic are those made of solid wood and with rice paper windows. Delicate elements that are the star of Zen spaces. In the West, the use made of the folding screen is very diverse depending on the type of space, but in general, most of them fulfil the function of offering intimacy and privacy at different times. In the home, it is a decorative object that can be used as a room divider or as a dressing room. We hide behind it to change but its delicate material allows light to pass through. In oriental restaurants we can also find Japanese screens, in order to separate spaces and have a more intimate dinner. And you, do you still don’t have your own screen? Visit our shop, you will be able to see them live!
